Des agents de l’UDMO agressent le CG Charles Édouard Durand au Cap-Haïtien

The government commissioner of the jurisdiction of Cap-Haitien, Charles Édouard Durand, was reportedly physically assaulted by agents of the departmental unit for the maintenance of order (UDMO) on the night of February 13, 2024. This information was relayed on social media, and the main person concerned confirmed it to the local media.

According to witnesses, the incident began with an altercation between the GC and one of the police officers, who violently hit the commissioner’s car parked on the side of the road. Two police officers involved in this case were questioned by the departmental section of the judicial police (SDPJ) and placed in isolation at the General Inspectorate, pending the continuation of the investigation.

The case raises questions about the relationship between the government commissioner and law enforcement in the Cap-Haitien region. Measures will have to be taken to ensure the safety of government officials and maintain law and order in the city.
